MALAYSIA - Filipina hostesses are willing to travel 1,000km across eight states, over peninsular Malaysia's northern border and make a U-turn into the country just to renew their social visit passes, Harian Metro reported.

After crossing the border and having their travel documents stamped, the women, who work as pub waitresses, guest relations officers and prostitutes, head back for another 12-hour journey to resume work in Johor Baru.

The women managed to escape the law because they kept renewing their passes every month.

A hostess known as Dimple, 28, said the journey was tiring but it was easier to renew her pass at Bukit Kayu Hitam in the north than going to Singapore or Batam in Indonesia.

"My friends and I made a U-turn in Singapore in 2006 but the laws there required us to stay overnight. This would incur higher costs for us," she said. -The Star/ANN
