SHAH ALAM, MALAYSIA: Public reaction and the high moral ground subscribed by the Pas leadership could force Elizabeth Wong to resign from all her posts, said sources.
This was the worst-case scenario, although most people felt that Wong was the victim in the case.
"It all depends on how the other Pakatan Rakyat parties, especially Pas, react to this situation.
"Pas has always held the moral high ground. If it decides not to stand by her, then we may be looking at another by-election."
Sources said Wong's case was similar to that of former Kedah executive councillor V. Arumugam, who resigned following allegations of bigamy.
Top party officials were scrambling to contain the public fallout from this incident.
The photographs, which are being circulated, were that of Wong in various positions in the bedroom of her home in Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya. They were taken while she was asleep.
Wong had lodged a police report at the Damansara police station on Sunday night, and while the source of the photos remains unknown, they have already made a political impact.
Sources felt the event would reignite a war of words between state Pakatan and Barisan Nasional leaders. Several Pakatan leaders claimed this was a blackmail ploy by BN to get Wong to cross over.
They said this was the trend, especially after the downfall of the Pakatan Perak government following the defection of three of its assemblymen.
With talk that Kedah and Selangor will be the next to fall, this scandal has set tongues wagging.
Sources expect BN to capitalise on this issue in the Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau by-elections.
