MALAYSIA - SINAR Harian has questioned the six-year age gap between a mother and her daughter from Sarawak.

Reni Tugik who is 83 years old according to her identification card, has a daughter, Kanching Jalong aged 77. This meant that she got married at the age of six.

However, Kanching believes her mother did not get married at that age.

"I believe that my mother (Reni) is now more than 90 years old. Her age is stated so because she had registered late," Kanching said. Reni could have married at the age of 13.

Kanching said there could be some confusion in determining her mother's date of birth because she did not have a birth certificate at that time when an identity card was issued to her.

Kanching also said that she and her mother would still vote in the Batang Ai by-election.
