Two brave women put armed robber to flight
|

>SUBANG JAYA, MALAYSIA - A tenacious pregnant woman and a courageous maid chased off a robber armed with a parang during an attempted snatch theft on Monday. However, Adeline Yong Yin Yin, who is seven and a half months pregnant, suffered multiple slash wounds on both her hands as a result of the incident outside her house in Jalan SS18/5F.
The 37-year-old assistant operations manager at Saujana Hotel suffered damaged nerves, tendons and muscles in her hands due to the attack.
The incident occurred about 7.30am as Yong was getting ready to leave for office. She was rummaging in the back seat of her car when she felt someone tugging at her handbag, which was on her left arm.
"I immediately locked my hands together to prevent the robber from getting my handbag. I suddenly lost my balance when the robber pulled hard," Yong said, when met at her house.
"I was lying on the ground and my chin was in pain when the robber began slashing at my arm trying to cut the straps of my handbag. Most of his slashes hit my left arm instead of the handbag straps."
Directly opposite Yong's house, an Indonesian maid Anik Lestari, was sweeping the front porch when she saw what was happening. She started screaming for help and swung her broom at the robber.
"I started screaming to attract attention before charging at the robber and hitting him with the broom," 21-year-old Anik said.
The incessant screaming , which raised the alarm in the neighbourhood, combined with a maid armed with a broom prompted the robber to flee empty-handed.
The man fled on a motorcycle together with a waiting accomplice. The maid helped Yong back into the house before the latter's brother sent her to the Sime Darby Medical Centre in Subang Jaya.
The hospital authorities lodged a police report and a policeman visited Yong on Monday to take pictures. He left promising that a police Inspector would be calling Yong to record her statement.
However, Yong expressed her disappointment yesterday because she had not been contacted by the police and the incident happened four days ago.
