Jogger finds charred body

MUAR, Malaysia: A 13-year-old boy who was jogging near the Tanjung Ketapang jetty discovered the charred remains of an elderly man at 7.30am yesterday.

Muar CID chief Deputy Supt Khoo Leng Huat said the body had been identified as that of 59-year-old pensioner Ho Kit Swee based on a bank book found near the scene.

"About 80% of the body was burnt," he said, adding that the body had been sent to the Muar Hospital for post-mortem.

DSP Khoo said no missing person's report had been lodged on the victim. He urged anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 07-2212999 or the nearest police station.

ALOR SETAR: Police have recovered a pistol and eight bullets following the arrest of a 29-year-old man in Kuala Nerang town.

Kedah police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said the man was detained following a tip-off at noon on Sunday.

"After his arrest, the man led police to recover a pistol and eight live bullets, buried in a secluded area about 5km outside Kuala Nerang town," he said.

DCP Syed Ismail said the man was remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations. -The Star/ANN
