KUALA LUMPUR - It was an emotional reunion for Siti Hajar, the maid allegedly abused by her employer, and her sister Nani Suriani whom she had not seen for three years at the Indonesian Embassy.
Siti, 33, who arrived at the embassy at about 12.30pm yesterday upon being discharged from the University Malaya Medical Centre, broke into tears when she spotted her sister at the entrance.
They hugged each other and sobbed for a few minutes.
Nani, 43, stroked her sister's hair and uttered words of comfort as they walked into the building.
"I am very happy to see my sister. She is very close to me," Siti told local and foreign reporters here yesterday, adding that she felt well and that she left it to the embassy to manage her return to Indonesia.
Asked about her feelings towards her employer, Siti said: "I hope she will be punished as severely as how she abused my body."
She said she could only call out Allah's name and weep when enduring the alleged beatings over the past three years she worked for her employer at the Lanai Kiara Condominium in Mont Kiara.
Nani, who was flown in here by the embassy, said she missed Siti greatly and often prayed for her well-being from their home in West Java.
"I tried to ask friends if they knew how she was doing because our family is too poor to fly to Malaysia or make overseas calls," she said.
Indonesian Ambassador Tan Sri Da'i Bactiar, who was also present, said he would make arrangements to fly Siti to Indonesia once her health recovered and after the police carried out investigations.
"She will return to Malaysia immediately should there be any court proceedings," he said, adding that the embassy had yet to receive Siti's medical report from the hospital.
Despite the alleged abuse, Da'i Bactiar said both countries shared good ties.
