The Star

ALL major Chinese dailies reported the death of an 11-year-old boy who choked on a lychee seed.

Tang Jia Yu, who had taken the fruit bought by his uncle on Sunday afternoon, had tried to cough out the seed but failed, his mother Zheng Li Ling, 33, said.

He later passed out at the house toilet.

A neighbour sent the boy to a nearby hospital but he died on the way, Nanyang Siang Pau quoted the mother as saying.

China Press reported that a post-mortem confirmed the seed had been the cause of Jia Yu's death.
