KOTA BARU, Malaysia: A spurned teenager, who dived into a "no-swimming" zone at the Batu Burok beach, failed in her suicide attempt. A passer-by rescued her.

The 19-year-old from Pasir Mas, Kelantan, was earlier seen engaged in a heated argument with a man, believed to be her boyfriend, before trying to kill herself.

The passer-by, who was strolling along the beach at about 2.30pm, saw her struggling in the water and went to her aid.

She was later given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rushed to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital. -The Star/ANN
