SIBU - Details on the huge investments from China will be announced soon, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

He said the Chinese government has allocated a huge fund specifically for investment in Malaysia as a reflection of the excellent economic and social ties between the two nations.

"I will announce more details concerning this investment from China in time to come. The decision by the Chinese government shows that they respect Malaysia a lot and have utmost confidence in us. Malaysia has historical ties with China that stretches all the way back to Admiral Cheng Ho," he said.

"For 500 years, we have developed such a relationship with China that our economies are intertwined," Najib added.

He said the Chinese who have chosen Malaysia as their home have contributed enormously towards the development of the country and made what it is today.

"It is due to their hard work, entrepreneurship and innovation that they have helped to shape Malaysia's success," he said.

Najib added that China looked at the country's 1Malaysia policy with keen interest.

"It is reflected by the solid social and economic ties that have been enhanced with our country," Najib said when declaring open the 26th National Chinese Cultural Festival here. The cultural festival was attended by Chinese associations from all over the country.

Najib said he was grateful to Sarawak and Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud for having done an excellent job in solidifying racial and religious harmony. -The Star/Asia News Network
