KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1, Kuala Terengganu, has been ordered closed while all the students in the Form Four Jaya class at Sekolah Menengah Aminuddin Baki, Kuala Lumpur, are in home quarantine due to influenza A (H1N1) infections. Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the directive on the two schools would be in effect until Wednesday.

"The closure of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1, Kuala Terengganu, involved a total of 1,456 students, teachers and staff," he said in a media statement yesterday.

Two students at the school had been found to be infected with the virus.

As at 8am yesterday, 39 new cases of H1N1 were reported, consisting of 22 imported cases and 17 local infections.

This raised the accumulated number of H1N1 cases in the country to 710, comprising 507 imported cases and 203 local infections.

Dr Ismail said that out of the 710 patients, 637 or 90 per cent had recovered and had been discharged from the various hospitals.

"The remaining 73 patients are still being treated at various hospitals."

In Malacca, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said four Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students in Lendu, Alor Gajah, had tested positive for influenza A.

He said one of them was being treated at the Malacca Hospital while the other three were in quarantine at the campus hostel.

"The situation at the Lendu UiTM is under control," he said after attending the opening of the Malacca MCA convention by MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat at Wisma MCA yesterday.

Liow said a health team had been stationed at the campus to assess the situation. -- Bernama
