PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA: MIC information chief Datuk M. Saravanan yesterday revealed that three millionaires were among those vying for positions in the party's elections.

Saravanan, who is also Federal Territories deputy minister, however, did not name the three but expressed confidence that delegates would make a wise choice.

It is understood that the three were contesting the vice-presidency, a post also contested by Saravanan.

He was asked about his chances of being elected after launching a Federal Territory public service work quality convention.

Like other contenders, he said it was normal for him to go to the ground to see the people and described the endorsement by party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu for him to contest the post as a privilege.

Recently, Samy Vellu openly endorsed incumbent deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel to defend the party's No. 2 post.

He had also endorsed Human Resources Minister and MIC secretary-general Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk S.K. Devamany, besides Saravanan, for the vice-presidency.

Samy Vellu won the post of president, uncontested, for the 11th term at the presidential election in March.
