KUALA TERENGGANU, MALAYSIA: Sacked MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek yesterday upped the ante in his political feud with Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, saying the party president's camp would resort to unfair tactics if and when an extraordinary general meeting called by Dr Chua is held.
"Rest assured that our side, which I regard as representative of the party, will abide by the constitution and will not act beyond its boundaries.
"Our worry, and this is also from the party central leadership, is whether the president himself will attempt to ensure this EGM does not materialise," Dr Chua said referring to the meeting he is calling.
He was speaking to reporters after meeting state MCA representatives here.
Ong had earlier called for an EGM to help resolve the crisis in the MCA and the party's presidential council said on Friday there would be only one such meeting.
Dr Chua said Ong's move to stop the rival EGM had now become the main concern of many MCA members.
"And if this EGM matter is not handled well, it is poised to trigger another controversy."
Dr Chua said the onus was now on Ong to ensure the party's majority voices were heard.
"To the president, please focus on the EGM. Do not deny the rights of the members and delegates, unless, that is, he wants another controversy to erupt."
Dr Chua also strongly denied reports that he was in the midst of setting up another political party.
He said such claims were baseless and if Ong were to openly accuse him of that, he would sue.
It was reported that Dr Chua had denied allegations that he and his supporters would be setting up a new political party called Parti Cinta Malaysia.
"From the very start I have been denying this.
"These are just tactics used to throw me off the ground, just like the various accusations thrown against me before."
The crisis between Ong and Dr Chua escalated after Dr Chua was expelled from the party in August over his 2007 sex video scandal, which was said to have tarnished the MCA's image.
