SABAK BERNAM, MALAYSIA - It must surely have been a record of sorts on Sunday when a man, his son and grandson all got married together at a village here.

Grandfather Mohamed Osman, 78, married Sawiyah Awang, 70, while his son, Syamsul Bakri Mohamed, 35, married Widyawati Mohamad, 35.

Grandson Shahrul Nadiah Misnan, 28, married Faizah Sukiman, 26, in the same ceremony held at Kampung Sungai Nipah Baruh in Simpang Lima here.

The historic three-generation wedding ceremony drew many villagers, both curious and in celebratory mood, to attend it.

Osman, whose first wife died six months ago, has eight children, 26 grandsons and 11 great grandchildren.

He never expected to get married again at this age but agreed to it after his children persuaded him.

He is the oldest person in the village and was the village mosque imam.

All three marriages were through match-making and the couples decided to get married on the same dais to make the event a memorable one.

Syamsul said he considered himself fortunate to be able to get married in such a unique fashion.
