WERE the 35 prayer mats found "standing" and performing prayers at a school surau in Pasir Mas a miracle or a hoax?

Pasir Mas religious enforcement assistant director Kamaruddin Zakaria believes that it was the work of someone who is out to cause an uproar among Muslims.

Kosmo! reported that the standing prayer mats were first spotted by a student of SK Tok Sangkut, Repek in Pasir Mas, Nurul Huda Mat Jali, 8, on Tuesday morning.

All the prayer mats were found to be standing in several rows, 15 of them in the male section while the rest were found in the women's section of the prayer hall of the surau.

The mats have since been seized by the department to prevent them from becoming objects of khurafat (superstition).

According to Kamaruddin, the division had sought advice from a mufti, district religious officers and the district police chief before seizing the mats.

"We did it to prevent the people from developing superstitious beliefs. Some of the visitors who turned up at the surau were becoming obsessed with the mats," he said adding that anyone could have orchestrated the incident. -The Star/Asia News Network
