SCENES of couples engaging in public display of affection is becoming a common sight at a spot barely 200m away from Masjid Putra in Putrajaya, Harian Metro reported.

The spot, also known as the 'romantic square' attracts couples who were seen kissing and hugging, especially after Maghrib prayers.

In recent months, the religious authority had issued more than 180 summonses to couples caught red-handed engaging in indecent acts at the square.

According to a source in the Federal Territories Islamic Affairs Department (Jawi), the couples caught would be charged in the Syariah court if their explanations were not satisfactory.

"Indecent acts such as this should not be taking place so close to a mosque where Muslims congregate to perform their prayers," he said.
