JOHOR BARU - Johor has identified over 20 landslide-prone sites in the state, mainly around Kota Tinggi and Mersing.

A Public Works Department official said the department was allocated between $820,000 and $123,0000 to strengthen the slopes in landslide-prone spots.

However, the official who declined to be identified pointed out that the allocation from the Federal Government was insufficient as there were too many dangerous slopes in the state.

"We get lesser allocation as the slopes here do not pose severe threats unlike in other states like Selangor, Pahang, Perak and Kelantan," he said, adding that most of the state allocation was used to cover dangerous spots with plastic sheets.

The official added that emergency allocations were also available for critical landslide-prone areas in the state.
