ALOR SETAR, MALAYSIA: Flood waters weren't the only thing that came with the rains.

An elderly woman and her son were shocked to find a five-metre python making a meal of their chicken at their house in Kampung Tanjung Tualak, Kuala Nerang, some 45km from here.

Manis Tasu, 67, and Mohd Afendi Darus, 24, were sleeping on the upper floor of their semi-wooden house when they heard a commotion from the chicken coop behind the house at 3am yesterday.

Manis said she could not call anyone for help because it was too early in the morning and she was afraid to allow Mohd Afendi to leave the house to seek help because he had to wade through the water.

"We decided to catch the snake ourselves by dismantling my grandchildren's swing and use the ropes.

"My son formed a loop and using a piece of wood, he pushed it around the snake's head and pulled it tight.

"However, the next morning when I wanted to alert my neighbours, I found it was already dead," she said.
