ALOR SETAR: The 80-year-old man who allegedly killed his 73-year-old wife will be remanded for a week.

Police obtained a remand order from a magistrate's court here yesterday to detain the suspect until Nov 16 to facilitate investigations into the case which has been classified as murder.

The man was arrested after stabbing his wife in the abdomen at her house in Kampung Kuala Sungai here, about 1pm on Monday, after apparently failing to get her to remain married to him.

The woman died on the spot while villagers caught the suspect several metres away from the house and handed him over to the police.

The couple had tied the knot last year but were staying separately two months ago after the wife asked for a divorce.
