Love abounds on Xmas Day

Butterflies in the stomach was the giveaway for bank officer Ooi Yoong Sherng that he had fallen in love with school teacher Lee Lay See the moment he first set eyes on her five years ago.

Lee reciprocated her love for him when she cared for him especially when he was unwell during their college days in Universiti Putra Malaysia.

"At first look I knew she was the one whom I will spend the rest of my life with as I felt butterflies in my stomach," said Ooi.

Their love was put to test after graduation as both had to go their separate ways to work.

While 26-year-old Ooi worked in a bank in Taman Maluri, Cheras, Lee, also 26, was posted to SMJK Ave Maria Convent.

To keep their romance alive, Ooi travelled twice monthly to Ipoh to see Lee.

The happy couple finally tied the knot along with 22 other couples in a mass Christmas Day wedding registration at Wisma Chin Woo.

Another couple who chose Christmas to get hitched was contractor Lai Yen Yih, 28, and Singapore Airlines air stewardess Marina Woon Poh Yen, 26, after 10 years of courtship.

The two, who first met at a shopping complex amusement park here, chose Christmas to get married as they wanted all their loved ones to be present for their wedding.

"Being a public holiday, more of our relatives will be available to witness the joyous occasion," said Lai, 28.

Technician Foong Wing Seng and sales executive Lee Lai Kee chose Christmas Day for their wedding as they had gone on their first date on Christmas Day six years ago.

Foong, who proposed to Lee last year, added that Dec 25 was also an easy date to remember.
