Typing errors acknowledged in ministry portal

MALAYSIA - THERE are typing errors in the recently-launched myprocurement portal listing government tenders and contracts, according to the Finance Ministry.

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussein, who acknowledged the errors, said efforts would be made to ensure they do not recur.

Examples of errors on the site:

"We will be more cautious. This is also because we are inputting data and figures from other ministries,"Awang Adek said.

Khairy Jamaluddin (BN-Rembau) had earlier said that the portals in Penang and Selangor showed no details of contracts such as dates, quantity, and specifications.

"Worse still, only registered companies can view the tender results in Selangor. It is not open to the public,"he said when debating the Supplementary Supply Bill 2010 at the committee stage.

Tony Pua (DAP - PJ Utara) raised the issue of the Defence Ministry spending RM2.7mil to buy shoes for women civilian staff as mentioned in the portal.

He said: "There is still room to improve the portal. We want to know the breakdown of the expenses such as how many pairs of shoes were bought. And was it at RM50, RM500 or RM5,000 a pair?"

Dr Awang Adek also clarified the status of Datuk Ibrahim Ali (Ind-Pasir Mas), saying that records from the Companies Commission showed that Ibrahim did not own shares of gaming companies.
