More Chinese are expected to get married in the Year of the Dragon as it is considered a good year to do so, China Press reported.
Thean Hou temple marriage registration department officer Zhou Shu Xin was quoted as saying that the number of Chinese registering their marriages this year was expected to increase by 10%.
"As some Chinese prefer their children to be born in the Year of Dragon, there are couples who will get married early in the year in the hopes that they may be blessed with a baby by year-end," she said.
Zhou said the temple had received numerous enquiries from couples who wished to register their marriages on Feb 6, when the Chinese celebrate Chap Goh Meh.
Chap Goh Meh, which falls on the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, is also known as the Chinese Valentine's Day.
