Malaysia may vote against UN resolution on Sri Lanka

Malaysia may vote against a United Nations resolution on war crimes committed by Sri Lanka security forces against the Tamil community, Makkal Osai reported.

Group of Concerned Citizens (GCC) coordinator K. Arumugam said he was told by sources that the Malaysian delegation to the 19th Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva had indicated that Malaysia might vote against the resolution.

He said the GCC, which claims to represent 51 Indian-based NGOs, had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on March 2 urging Malaysia not to support the military campaign against Sri Lanka's Tamil minority in 2009.

Arumugam called on MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel to raise the matter with the Cabinet.
