SHAH ALAM, Malaysia - Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said his suggestion to scrap the student loans under the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) will not bankrupt the nation.
"Writing off the PTPTN loan debtors is not a big deal.
"Even with current government policies, it is possible to implement the move.
"The Barisan Nasional will say that by doing so, the country will go bankrupt.
"We will show them how to do it when we take over the nation," the PKR adviser and Opposition Leader said at a forum titled Free Education: Is It Just A Dream? here yesterday.
Reiterating that the Pakatan Rakyat parties would give free education should they come to power, Anwar said the move was achievable as the country had enough funds to support it.
