JOHOR BARU - After weeks of being harassed, including having paint and faeces thrown at her flat, a 46-year-old secretary was found dead in a pool of blood at her home in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya here.
A neighbour, who declined to be named, said that Kum Huey Lan from Kluang, who worked in a cement factory in Pasir Gudang, had been harassed for the past three weeks by several men.
"Kum had complained about these men and had told me that she was confused as to why they were targeting her because she did not owe anyone any money and had no enemies," the neighbour said.
The neighbour did not know if the men were loan sharks but said that they behaved like thugs and even damaged Kum's car.
"Kum usually kept to herself and we are shocked that this happened to her," she said, adding that Kum was single and lived alone.
Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaacob said that police received a report from one of the neighbours at around 8.30am yesterday.
"We do not believe that this is the work of robbers as we found cash, her mobile phone, identification documents, bank book and other personal belongings untouched," he said.
"Police have classified the case as murder," he said, adding that "the suspect or suspects may have escaped quickly after killing her as her unit was located in front of the staircase," he said. The block of flats did not have closed-circuit TV.
ACP Zainuddin also said the woman was stabbed several times in the chest and her throat was slit, but no murder weapon was found at the scene.
He urged anyone with information to contact the Johor police hotline 07-2212999 or go to the nearest police station.
