Rally hijacked by politicians, say BN reps

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia - Bersih 3.0 organisers must bear responsibility for the injuries and damage to property during Saturday's rally, said Barisan Nasional politicians.

Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said there was defiance and anger in the crowd.

"The number was bigger than Bersih 2.0, it was more multi-racial with more youths," he said.

On reports that journalists were harassed by police, he admitted that police had acted "strangely" against them.

Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin said the rally was clearly hijacked by politicians.

"Hijacking, check. Partisan, check," Khairy said, questioning the neutrality of Bersih 3.0.

Sabah Barisan Nasional secretary Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan called for the resignation of the Malaysian Bar Council president for criticising the police for alleged brutality.

He said police should not be blamed because the rally was against provisions in the Peaceful Assembly Act.
