DPM: Opposition parties only fighting for own benefit

RAUB, Malaysia - The Opposition parties are not fighting for the people but for their own benefit, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He cited the unrealistic promises of the Pakatan Rakyat to the people just to take over Putrajaya.

An example is the Opposition's promise to write off the RM43bil National Higher Education Fund Corporation loans which will create a great burden to the country's economy, he said.

"During my working visit to Selangor, I met many people who held my hands in a firm manner, and they wanted to me to know that they cannot wait for the general election and vote for Barisan Nasional.

"This is because they are disheartened with the Opposition for making pledges that had not been fulfilled.

"For us in the Barisan, we do not make empty promises. Every one of our pledges will be fulfilled and every segment of the society will benefit from the various transformation programmes initiated by the Government," he said at the meet-the-people gathering in Dataran Raub here yesterday.

Muhyiddin said there would certainly be some weaknesses in the Barisan which had caused the people to vote against the coalition in the last elections.

"Under the leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the Barisan has been working hard, correcting past mistakes and regaining the people's trust," he added.

Muhyiddin also announced an allocation of RM6mil (S$2.4 million) for the Raub parliamentary constituency to up-grade a mosque in Sungai Lui and various forms of assistance for the community.
