S'pore's military celebrates National Day

Earlier today, about 2,000 personnel from the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) celebrated the nation's 42nd birthday in a National Day Observance Ceremony.

Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean led the Observance Ceremony at MINDEF building. Also present was Second Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister of State for Defence Associate Professor Koo Tsai Kee, Permanent Secretary (Defence) Chiang Chie Foo, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek, Permanent Secretary (Defence Development) Dr Tan Kim Siew, the Service Chiefs, and other senior officials from MINDEF and SAF, according to a press statement by Mindef.

There was also a 15-minute musical, "Celebrate Singapore, a City of Possibilities" performed by artistes from the SAF Music and Drama Company (MDC) and children from the SAF Child Care Development Centre (CDC).

With the Singapore flags in their hands and dressed in their traditional costumes, the children also had an opportunity to be photographed with Minister Teo.

The audience also got to participate as they were led in a sing-along of popular national songs.

Around Singapore, various other SAF units also held observance ceremonies to commemorate National Day 2007.
