PUB Singapore, the country?s national water agency, has won the Stockholm Industry Water Award at the World Water Week in Stockholm.
Cited as "an exemplary model of integrated water management in a framework of good policy and innovative engineering solutions" for the prestigious award, this is PUB?s second international award for good water management. It was named the Water Agency of the Year by Global Water Intelligence in Dubai last year.
PUB's Chief Executive Khoo Teng Chye, who received the award from the Chairman of Stockholm Water Foundation, Mr Peter Forssman, said: "We are honoured to win the Stockholm Industry Water Award. PUB has worked hard over the last 40 years to overcome our water challenges and put in place a sustainable water supply for our people through the establishment of the Four National Taps strategy.
"This strategy is driven by a clear vision of what it takes to be sustainable in water, investing in technology, timely and cost-effective execution by public sector agencies and close partnerships with the business sector and the community."
As Singapore is fast being recognised as a model city for good water management, the government is investing $330 million to develop the water sector over the next five years.
And the water industry is expected to triple the value add of the economy to $1.7 billion by 2015, the PUB said in a press statement today.
Several multi-national companies, such as GE Water and Siemens Water Technologies, are also setting up offices here.
There is also strong support for the Singapore International Water Week which will be held for the first time here next year. More than $3 million in sponsorships have been pledged by local and international water and engineering companies.
More than 6,000 government officials, industry leaders and water specialists are expected to attend the inaugural Singapore International Water Week which will be held from June 23-27.
The water week will also feature the Water Leaders? Summit, Water Convention and the Water Expo. The event will further establish Singapore?s position in the international water community and boost its aspirations to be a global hydrohub.
