KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - China's third seed Chen Jin became the second big-name casualty in 24 hours at the world badminton championships on Thursday, when he lost his third round match with Singapore's Ronny Susilo 21-19 21-14.

On Wednesday, Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia had exited the tournament after losing in three sets to unseeded Indian Anup Sridhar.

Chen had been in action late on Wednesday in a second round game against Malaysia's Roslin Hashim and expressed unhappiness at returning to court in the early afternoon of the following day.

Susilo, seeded 11, said the quick turnaround had "probably" been a factor in the Chinese loss but added: "I have prepared very well for this tournament and I think I played at my best."

In the 2004 Athens Olympics, Susilo famously beat world number one Lin Dan in the opening round of the Games' badminton tournament but has rarely hit the heights since.

In the quarter-finals here, he now plays either sixth-seed Chen Yu of China or South Korea's Park Sung-hwan, seeded 14.

Titleholder Lin was in action later on Thursday, playing 15th seeded Dutchman Dicky Palyama in their third round clash.

While Chen Jin suffered there were no such problems for top seeded Chinese woman Zhang Ning in her third round game with Indonesia's Maria Kristin Yulianti.

The 32-year-old Olympic and former world champion brushed her opponent aside 21-10, 21-9.
