SINGAPORE, Aug 29, 2007 (AFP) - Singapore share prices closed 0.25 percent lower Wednesday, recovering from earlier sharp losses on the back of a sell off on Wall Street overnight, dealers said.

They said a drop in US consumer confidence, downgrades for US banks and concerns at the US Federal Reserve over the subprime mortgage troubles had all backed significant regional falls until bargain hunting emerged.

The main Straits Times Index dropped 8.34 points to 3,334.66.
