A trackrider fell from his horse at the Singapore Racecourse this morning and died.

Mr Asaad Bin Makmang, 48, was riding his horse, Maxim Gun, near the 1,300m mark on the fibresand track at the Singapore Racecourse during trackwork at about 6.15am today when he fell.

"The Club's ambulance, which was at the scene, immediately went up to him. The medical personnel who attended to him, found him unconscious and not breathing. He was rushed to the Singapore General Hospital after unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate him," said a statement from the Singapore Turf Club.

The rider was pronounced dead at 7.35am. The suspected cause of death was heart failure, said the statement.

The Club is currently working closely with the police and hospital. A post-mortem investigation is being carried out to establish the cause of death.
