THE woman who was jailed earlier this year for cheating an engineer overseas over a false promise of marriage on the Internet was given another 36 months on similar charges.
Maliha Ramu, who turns 37 today, pleaded guilty to four charges of cheating a 32-year-old researcher and a 29-year-old engineer in the United States.
She conned her victims by posing as Sanjana Jaiprakas, sending them several pictures of the pretty Indian model and promising to marry them.
Researcher Sithamparanathan Kandeepan, who lives in Australia, was cheated of nearly A$95,000 (S$119,000) between March 2005 and last year while the other victim, engineer Jaganathan Ramachandran, transferred US$22,500 (S$34,582) to her bank account.
Five other similar charges were taken into consideration.
Maliha who was supposed to have been released on July 20 after serving her six-month sentence had asked to remain in custody because of the pending charges. Her 36-month sentence was backdated to that day.
