The man who is accused of stabbing his uncle last week has been ordered by a court to be sent on Thursday to be sent for psychiatric assessment.

Heng Boon Chai, 29, whose case was supposed to have been mentioned but was brought forward on Wednesday, was originally charged at Changi General Hospital on Sept 6 with the attempted murder of his uncle, Mr Heng Kim Teck, 55, in a sixth-floor flat at Telok Blangah Heights on Sept 4.

He is believed to be undergoing medical treatment for injuries he suffered during the incident.

Mr Heng was carrying out some wiring work with a colleague inside the flat when the attack took place at about 3.30 pm that day. He died in hospital four days after the brutal stabbing.

The charge was reclassified as murder after the victim died.

The accused is being remanded in Changi Medical Complex. The prosecution told the court today that the police were unable to carry out further investigation due to his behaviour and condition.

Heng will be brought back to court on Oct 3.

Veteran criminal lawyer Subhas Anandan is representing the accused.
