A 42-year-old man was charged in court on Friday with making two bomb hoax calls.

Rajanthiran Subramaniam is accused of calling the police outside a coffeeshop at Jalan Bukit Merah on Tuesday at 3.23pm, saying that there was a bomb at the Institute of Mental Health that would go off in 10 minutes.

He allegedly told the police: "We are patients here. Ok. You want to find me in time lah. Ok. Bye!''

About 20 minutes later, he allegedly called again to say that there was a bomb at IMH which would go off in 10 minutes. This time, he called from a convenience store at Tiong Bahru Road.

He was remanded for psychiatric examination. He will appear in court again on Sept 27.

Last week, two men pleaded guilty to similar charges under the United Nations (Anti-Terrorism Measures) Regulations 2001.

Shah Billal Sapuan, a 43-year-old unemployed schizophrenic, was given 12 months' jail for calling the Singapore Civil Defence Force hotline that Malaysian Jihadis were planting bomb in Orchard Road and Tanjong Pagar.

Harmoko Julianus, 22, unemployed, similarly pleaded guilty to informing a Cisco officer outside British High Commission that there was a bomb inside.

The former full-time national serviceman, who is suffering from bipolar disorder, will be sentenced on Monday.
