A man was injured when a fire broke out in a ground flooor provision shop at Blk 308, Clementi Avenue 4 at about 5.15 am on Monday.

SCDF sent one fire engine, one Red Rhino, two Fire Bikes, three support appliances and an ambulance to the scene and swiftly brought the fire under control within five minutes.

Firemen had to break the rear gate of the shop to gain entry. They rescued a Chinese man inside the shop and rushed him to the National University Hospital. Police said he suffered smoke inhalation.

The fire was confined to a small area inside the shop unit and damaged some sundry goods.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
