SM Goh meets UK's Brown

SENIOR Minister Goh Chok Tong, who is on a private visit to the United Kingdom, called on the UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown at No 10, Downing Street on Thursday.

Mr Goh is the first Singaporean leader whom Mr Brown has met since he took over as Prime Minister in June 2007. It is also Mr Goh's first meeting with Mr Brown.

During the 30-minute meeting, Senior Minister Goh conveyed a personal invitation from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Mr Brown to visit Singapore for the Asean-EU Commemorative Summit in November, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement on Friday.

A key outcome of the summit will be a discussion on climate change issues ahead of the meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in Bali in December.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in Myanmar and the Middle East.

Mr Goh has been in the UK since Oct 1 and will be there till Oct 14.
