A Victoria Secondary School student is in serious condition after he was hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing near Victoria Secondary School in Bedok on Thursday night.

The 16-year-old Secondary Four student is believed to be standing on the central divider and was turning back to pick up something on the road when a car coming from Marine Parade Road towards Bedok struck him at 8.45 pm.

The secondary four student who is due to sit for his 'O' level exams in 10 days time, suffered head injuries and was rushed semi-conscious to Changi General Hospital.

His parents and school principal are keeping a vigil outside the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

The school principal, Mr Low Eng Teong told The Straits Times that the boy went home late last night because there was a celebration in school earlier to mark the last day of class for secondary four students who will be taking their 'O' levels just over a week away.

He said he and many of the boys' classmates were distraught to learn of the accident.

The driver of the car, a 47-year-old woman, is helping police in investigation.

Police are appealing to those who have information to call their hotline at 1800-5471818.
