WHILE out on bail on a break-in charge, a man allegedly trafficked a substance believed to be Ketamine.

Ang Meng Hua, 33, was accused in court on Sunday of trafficking a controlled drug.

The special sitting of the Criminal Mentions Court was held on Sunday because the court was closed on Saturday for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

On Sept 13, Ang was charged with theft from a shopping centre along Syed Alwi Road and allowed bail.

Between Sept 28 and 30, at about 9pm, he allegedly tried to sell 12 packets weighing 14.63g of a crystalline substance believed to be Ketamine.

He was said to be trying to sell the packets for $360 to a man at a carpark near Block 340, Woodlands Road.

Ang, wearing a red T-shirt and appearing expressionless, was denied bail. The previous bail order on the charge of theft from premises was withdrawn.

Anyone caught trafficking a controlled drug faces up to 20 years in jail and 15 strokes of the cane.

If convicted of the break-in charge, Ang faces up to seven years jail and a fine.

The case is expected to be mentioned in court again on Oct 27.
