The Singaporean woman, who was raped and murdered in a Kuala Lumpur condominium last weekend, was buried on Tuesday evening at the Muslim cemetery at Choa Chu Kang.
The body of Ms Mahani Abdullah, 50, placed in a simple wooden box and covered with a green velvet cloth, arrived at the burial ground at about 6.45 pm, after her husband and son collected it from the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital on Tuesday morning.
She was buried at about 7 pm in a simple ceremony, attended by some 30 grieving relatives.
The bruise-covered body of Ms Mahani was found by police on Sunday in the living room of an apartment at the Bangsar Indah condominium, which is located in an upscale neighbourhood popular with Singaporeans and expatriates and about 10 minutes from KL city centre.
A 34-year-old Algerian man, described as an Eric Bana-lookalike, is being held in connection with the murder.
He was arrested near the city's central business district after midnight on Sunday.
Mr Ku Chin Wah, chief of Kuala Lumpur's criminal investigation department, told The Straits Times on Tuesday that the suspect will be remanded until Nov 9 further questioning.
Asked when the suspect would be charged in court, he said: 'It's still too early as investigations are still on-going.'
The Algerian, who has no travel documents, is said to have rented the apartment from an Egyptian owner when he arrived in Malaysia about two months ago.
Ms Mahani was known to him and had met him five times since September, said media reports.
Police have taken a DNA sample from the murder suspect. Ms Mahani's husband and son have also given their statements to the KL police.
