15-year-old student is National Library's 1 millionth lender
Mon, Nov 12, 2007

A REGULAR library outing brought an unexpected surprise for 15-year-old Keith Leow on Sunday when he made the millionth book loan since Nov 1 across all National Library Board branches islandwide.

The student from Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) was at the Toa Payoh Community library with his mother and younger brother, an almost-weekly affair for the family.

The book that bagged the honours: a travel guide to Japan.

'I will be going to Hokkaido next month so I thought I should get a guide book to read up about the country,' Keith said.

For making the millionth book loan, Keith won a free premium membership for five years, which entitles him to borrow up to eight library items. He also walked away with a Nokia 5310 mobile phone.

The event was part of the first Singapore Library week.
