More than 2,400 turn up at T3 open house

OVER 2,400 people thronged Changi Airport's new Terminal 3 complex on the first day of its open house.

In fact, more than 500 people turned up in the first two hours after the doors opened on Monday morning.

They bought tickets to see the restricted areas in the $1.75-billion facility.

Tickets to the open house, which runs till 9 Dec, cost $3 for a 45-minute guided tour and $1 if visitors want to see these areas on their own.

Visiting hours during the open house are from 10am to 5pm on weekdays, and from 9am to 6pm on weekends.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore said all proceeeds from the sale of the tickets will be donated to the Singapore Cancer Society.

Many visitors told straitstimes.com that they were impressed by the sheer size of the 380,000 sq m complex that spans 63 football fields.

The spanking new building boasts 28 aerobridges, including eight to cater for the new Airbus A380.

Besides the expanded retail space for passengers, visitors to the airport will also be spoilt for choice, given the 45 retail and 20 F&B outlets available in the public access area.

The teminal will start operations on 9 Jan.
