POLICE are questioning a man who dropped off a package containing an unknown white powder at a neighbourhood police post on Monday afternoon.

The man, in his 40s, handed the package to a front counter officer at the Tanjong Pagar Neighbourhood Police Post, in Block 144 Jalan Bukit Merah, and left in a hurry.

When the officer examined the stack of A4 paper, he noticed the powdery substance. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was called and it quickly deployed a Hazmat (hazardous materials) response team, an ambulance and a fire engine to the police post.

Meanwhile, the police managed to track down the man in the vicinity and detained him.

The white powder was sent for tests on Monday, and the results are not known yet.
