He gave me pill, I fell asleep, then...

SHE was hysterical and depressed when her husband was thrown into jail, so she turned to a friend for help.

But the 'best friend' allegedly drugged and raped her.

'I trusted him completely. He has never shown any disrespect to me before,' Madam Ellen, who is in her 30s, told The New Paper.

We are not using the woman's real name as the law does not allow rape victims to be identified.

The former nightclub hostess, who is now unemployed, claimed she had initially planned to keep mum and live with the shame.

'I also thought about my girls. I did not want the scandal to affect them in any way. Plus, they were preparing for their final-year examinations,' she said.

But three days later, she decided to call the police.

Police spokesman ASP Stanley Norbert confirmed that a report had been made and that investigations were on.

Madam Ellen said she first met the man seven years ago, when she was still married to her first husband.

He had helped her through her darkest days, especially after she divorced her husband in 2001.

He was also supportive when she married her second husband whom she met when she started working as a nightclub hostess.

Her husband was then a bouncer in the same nightclub.

Three months after they were married, her husband was detained under section 55, claimed Madam Ellen.

This refers to the Criminal Law (Temporary Provisions) Act, which allows detention without trial for those suspected of certain criminal activities.

Madam Ellen said: 'My world came crashing down. I went hysterical and slowly, I began to suffer from depression.'

She took medication to treat her depression, but depended on her friends, including the alleged rapist, for support.

Madam Ellen claimed that on the morning of the alleged attack, the man turned up at her home at about 7am.

She claimed: 'At that time, my three girls had gone to school and I was the only one at home.'

The man had allegedly contacted her the day before, saying a friend had recommended to him a traditional medication to treat depression. It came in the form of a capsule.

Madam Ellen said: 'He offered the capsule to me. I was reluctant to take it at first because I was not sure if it wouldwork.

'But since I never suspected anything, I relented after his persuasion.'

Madam Ellen claimed she lost consciousness almost immediately.

Two hours later, she awoke to find her clothes in disarray.

She said: 'I knew what had happened instantly. I felt so angry and ashamed that I drove him out of my home at once without giving him any chance to speak.'

SENT SMS

The man later sent her an SMS, she said.

Written in Chinese, the text message read: 'I will keep it a secret. You are so lovely and beautiful that I could not resist it. I won't dare to do it again. Wish to see your smile again. You're too adorable, really, I just lost control.'

Said an upset Madam Ellen: 'He brought the pill to my home, pleaded with me to take it and drugged me.

'Does it not mean he had already harboured the thought? How could it then be a moment of folly?'

Lawyer Doris Chia from Harry Elias Partnership told The New Paper that rape victims should make a police report as soon as possible.

'This is so that the victim can receive medical attention at once to enable the collection of evidence.

'Delaying it could likely minimise that chance.'
