THE Yishun Primay pupil who was allegedly killed by her stepfather last month did well enough in this year's Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) to go on to the Express stream in secondary school.
Ong Pang Hui, 15, was found dead in the Marsiling Drive flat she shared with her mother and step-brother and two other teenagers, with injuries on her neck and shoulder.
Her stepfather, private bus driver Ong Pang Siew, whom her mother divorced a few months earlier, was arrested and charged with her murder.
Pang Hui, who was also known as Linda, had come to Singapore with her mother five years ago.
She was placed in Primary 2 in Yishun Primary then, because of her poor command of English.
On Thursday, her mother, who declined to be named, went to her school to collect Pang Hui's PSLE results slip.
'Her scores are pretty good for a student from China. She has proven herself and it's sad that she's no longer here,' Yishun Primary principal, Mrs Chan Kwai Foong, told The Straits Times.
She did well especially in Chinese and Maths.
Mrs Chan said she could not disclose further details about her results as Pang Hui's mother did not want this to be publicised.
Judging from the cut-off for the Express course last year, Pang Hui would have scored at least 188 in the PSLE.
Said Mrs Chan: 'She's actually very committed to her studies, knowing that her purpose in coming to Singapore is to do well in her studies and in English.'
