RADM (Ret) Kwek Siew Jin
President, Singapore Dragon Boat Association
Kallang Water Sports Centre
No 10 Stadium Lane, Kallang
Singapore 397774

Dear Siew Jin,

I am deeply saddened to learn of the dragon boat accident in Phnom Penh, and of the five members of the Singapore team who are still missing.

This is a trying time for all of us, especially for the families of the five missing team members, and the Singapore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA). As you are aware, the Singapore Government is in touch with the Cambodian authorities and providing them with the necessary help. The SAF has deployed a team from the Naval Diving Unit this afternoon to assist in the search and rescue. Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia has also written to me, to assure me of Cambodia's full support for the search operations, and to express his sorrow and sympathy at this tragic accident.

I understand that you are currently in Phnom Penh with the family members, and that they have been briefed on the ongoing search and rescue efforts. Please convey to them my deepest sympathies. I wish them comfort and strength during this extremely difficult period.

Yours sincerely,
Lee Hsien Loong

Prime Minister
Singapore
