Ex-TV host Benedict Goh starts serving jail term

FORMER television host Benedict Goh began serving a three-week sentence for drink driving last Friday after surrendering himself in court.

He had initially appealed against the conviction, but decided to drop it three days after a similar case was thrown out in the High Court.

'Ben would like to take responsibility for what he had done, and he hopes that others will learn from his mistake,' said his lawyer, Lee Teck Leng.

The 37-year-old, who is in the interior design business, admitted in October to ramming into a parked car on the Ayer Rajah Expressway while drunk.

The accident happened at about 3.30am on Feb 10. The driver and and passengers in the car were waiting for a tow truck. No one was hurt.

Goh pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving and driving without due consideration for others. He has paid an $800 fine for the inconsiderate driving.

For drink driving, he was jailed three weeks and banned from driving any vehicle for four years. Two other charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.

Mr Lee said on Wednesday that his client felt all along that the sentence was fair.

'But we filed the notice because of the other case to protect his interests. Now that the other appeal has been dismissed, there is no basis for us to proceed,' he said.
