SINGAPORE experienced widespread intermittent rain, heavy at times, on Wednesday, brought in by the Northeast Monsoon.
This marks the start of the rainy season here, which usually lasts from December to January, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) in a statement.
The eastern and northeastern parts of the island received the highest rainfall, with 131.2mm and 123.4mm of rainfall being recorded respectively.
This was at Changi Airport and Seletar between 8am and 6pm on Wednesday.
The average monthly rainfall for December is 287.9mm.
NEA said the island's been experiencing windy conditions in the past several days, due to the onset of the Northeast Monsoon in the region since late November.
The Northeast Monsoon season is characterized by afternoon and late evening showers, heavy at times, and a few periods of prolonged monsoon rain.
The monsoon rain is a result of a steady strengthening of winds over the South China Sea known as a monsoon surge.
Windy conditions are also common.
NEA said the forecast for Thursday is cloudy with intermittent rain, heavy at times.
Afternoon showers may be expected on Dec 7 and 8.
