Ice truck thief charged

A 45-YEAR-OLD man was charged on Thursday with stealing an ice truck at a carpark in Ang Mo Kio on Wednesday.

Rajagopal Ramayan is said to have stolen the $10,000 Mitsubishi Canter lorry from Mr Teo Tack Lik at the carpark of Block 716, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6.

With nine police cars in hot pursuit, he drove the truck for some 50km before he was arrested at a ComfortDelgro workshop in Sin Ming Drive about an hour later.

He was remanded at Ang Mo Kio police division for a week.

The case will be mentioned on Dec 3.

If convicted, he faces a punishment of between one and seven years' jail and a fine.
