A SCHOOL dropout, who was among the bullies who robbed a student, was sentenced to reformative training on Tuesday.

Nicholas Yeo Kexiong, 17, had earlier admitted to robbing Matthias Leonard Lim Chong Guan, 16, of his $698 phone and $100 cash at the void deck of Block 419 Bedok North Street 1 on March 27.

Yeo had two accomplices - Jason Li Zhiqiang, 23, and Jack Tor Yong Cheng, 19 - who have been dealt with.

The three of them, together with a girl and three other youths, had confronted Matthias over Yeo's former classmate, Cindy.

Li had asked Matthias why he text-messaged Cindy. Matthias replied that he was just asking how she was but Li did not believe him.

Angry, Li punched Matthias on the face with a knuckle-duster.

He then pressed a lit cigarette against his face. Tor took Matthias' cellphone and wallet and handed the wallet to Yeo, who took $30 from it for himself.

The trio later forced Matthias to withdraw all his savings - $70 - from a nearby ATM for Yeo. They sold his phone to a second-hand dealer for $400.
