A SINGAPORE Armed Forces (SAF) officer has died unexpectedly.

According to a Defence Ministry (Mindef) statement, Major Tan Yit Guan, an SAF logistics officer, collapsed at 8.20am at Kranji Camp on Wednesday morning.

Major Tan was talking with his colleagues after completing a 1.2km self-paced run when he suddenly collapsed, Mindef said.

'He was given prompt medical attention and evacuated to the National University Hospital (NUH) at about 8.45am. Efforts by the SAF medical team to resuscitate him en route were unsuccessful,' the statement added.

Major Tan was pronounced dead at 9.30am in NUH.

The Defence Ministry and the SAF said they will be assisting Major Tan's family.

The Ministry is investigating the incident.
